Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is performed to repair sagging or drooping eyelids. When the surgery is performed on patients for cosmetic reasons, blepharoplasty is considered elective surgery. When eyelid changes are severe in elderly patients it may sometimes be undertaken to open up the field of vision impaired by overhanging skin. This cosmetic procedure is usually done while the patient is conscious or sedated but under local anesthesia. The incisions are made in the natural creases or folds of the eyelids while the loose skin and excess fat tissue are removed. The eyelid muscles are tightened and the incision is stitched closed. The blepharoplasty procedure is often performed alone, but your surgeon may also recommend a face lift or other facial cosmetic procedure to achieve the best results.
